17th Mediterranean Conference on Control and Automation
June 24-26, 2009, Makedonia Palace, Thessaloniki, Greece
A Message from MED09 General ChairsWe take great pleasure in welcoming you to MED 09 Thessaloniki. The first MED conference was held in Chania, Crete in 1993. It is gratifying to see how MED has grown and by now spanned the Mediterranean from Cyprus, Israel, and Kusadasi to Dubrovnik, Sardinia, Lisbon, Ancona, and Corsica- and of course Athens, Patras, Rodos, and now Thessaloniki. The conference has indeed fulfilled its intent of bringing together researchers and practitioners in control & automation throughout the Mediterranean. Next year we will take the venue to Marrakech, providing a balance to the South that nicely rounds out our map of the Mediterranean Sea. We are excited to have this year's conference near the birthplaces of many Greek illustrious leaders, scientists, engineers, philosophers such as Philip, Alexander the Great, Aristotle and many others. We are sure that you will explore and find them to be as exciting as we do! Thessaloniki is an old city with a history of 23 centuries that stands as a crossroad and a bridge. It has spanned the civilizations including ancient Greek, Roman, Byzantine, and the ancient roads of commerce pass through its borders. As a European city in the European Union, it provides a bridge between Eastern and Western civilizations. In short, we are happy to welcome you to a very strong technical conference program and a very strong history and sense of time and place in a beautiful and exciting city. We hope you enjoy your time in Northern Greece. Vassilios Petridis Frank L. Lewis |
